The Olympic anthem is also known as the Olympic hymn,It is played at the opening ceremony of the Olympics when the Olympic flag is raised and again as the flag is lowered at the the closing ceremony.
The Lyrics of the Anthem are from a poem 'Ancient Immortal Spirit' by Kostis (Costas) Palamas (1859-1943),Kostis Palamas was a Greek poet.
His poem was set to music in 1896 by the Greek composer, Spiros (Spyros) Samaras (1853-1917).
The anthem was performed for the first time for the ceremony of opening of the first edition at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
Apart from the original Greek version,the anthem has been recorded and performed in many different languages including English,French,Japanese,Italian and more.
